The NorthSouth Duo brings together music and stories from various corners of the world, woven into an adventurous mix of classical and contemporary compositions with influences from jazz and folk music. Despite their different backgrounds, Josie McClure (saxophone) and Kaat Vanhaverbeke (accordion) found each other during their studies in the Netherlands. Josie grew up in faraway South Africa, Kaat comes from a small Belgian village. The duo explores themes such as migration, identity and a sense of home in their music and above all wants to bring listeners together and connect them. As enthusiastic representatives of their instruments, they enrich the contemporary repertoire for accordion and saxophone by collaborating with young, promising composers.
