Finding Home: An Exploration of New South African Saxophone Music

Finding Home: An Exploration of New South African Saxophone Music

Abstract

This concert was a collaborative project between South African performers and composers in the creation of new music for the classical saxophone. It forms a part of Josie McClure’s Master’s research at the Koninklijke Conservatorium, The Hague. All the works displayed at this concert are new commissions. Composers that have been involved include Arthur Feder, Clare Loveday, Allan X. Chen, Karl Lobi and Owen Dalton. The program is diverse featuring works that uniquely display the variety of styles and soundscapes that have been cultivated for the classical saxophone through extensive collaboration between McClure and the above-mentioned composers. Seung-Ree Lee – the collaborative pianist for this project – and McClure have worked with each other on previous projects and are excited to present a collaborative interpretation of these South African works

The South African Saxophone Catalogue

The South African Saxophone Catalogue is a website I compiled to create a platform where individuals are able to easily find and access saxophone compositions composed by South African composers.
